The Jungle Collection’s faux entomology frames are an ethical, eco-conscious alternative to traditional preserved specimens, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of these creatures without harm. Each piece features a detailed wooden ‘specimen’, carefully presented within a decorative frame with a black velvet backing.

Inspired by antique natural history collections, these pieces bring a sense of curiosity and old-world charm to gallery walls, shelves, or layered interior spaces.

Designed by Cairns artist Jenna Minchin, each piece celebrates the intricate forms and biodiversity of Far North Queensland through a lens that is both nostalgic and distinctly modern.

  • The Ulysses Butterfly (Papilio ulysses) is Queensland’s favourite butterfly and the emblem of tourism across the Cairns region and Far North Queensland. This large swallowtail has a wingspan of up to 13 cm and is characterised by its iridescent electric-blue wings, which flash brightly in flight.

Ulysses butterflies are elusive, darting through the rainforest in a fast, erratic manner to avoid predators. These flying habits add to the butterfly’s majestic charm, as they flicker flirtatiously through the rainforest in glimmers of electric blue that delight the eye.

They have a relatively short life cycle, living in their butterfly form for only two to four weeks before their wings tire. The Ulysses Butterfly is found across Queensland, Australia, as well as in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.
