The Giant Rainforest Centipede (Ethmostigmus rubripes) is the largest centipede in Australia, with the Wet Tropics “Kuranda” form reaching up to 23 cm in length. In Far North Queensland, particularly around Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands, this striking rainforest morph is recognised by its dark blue-green body, vivid blue to aqua legs, and bright red antennae.
A powerful nocturnal predator, it hunts rainforest invertebrates and small vertebrates such as frogs and geckos, using modified venomous legs called forcipules to subdue its prey. By day, it shelters under logs, bark, or leaf litter, emerging when humidity rises after rain.
Females guard their clutch of up to 40 eggs in a hidden chamber, tending them until the young have undergone their first moults. The vivid colouration of the Wet Tropics form may serve as a visual deterrent to predators, making it an unforgettable sight on FNQ’s rainforest floor.

Sustainably Focused: To honour the Rainforest and the wildlife within it, we strive to use ethical, sustainable and responsibly sourced materials for our products (when possible, to do so). This includes responsibly sourced wood, recycled acrylic, reclaimed steel and recycled papers. More information on this can be found in our policy page
