The Monstera adansonii (Monstera adansonii) is a beloved tropical climber native to the rainforests of Central and South America, celebrated for its elegant, heart-shaped leaves patterned with distinctive oval holes—earning it nicknames such as “Swiss Cheese Plant” and “Broken Heart Plant.” In its natural habitat, the fenestrations allow dappled light to reach the lower foliage, while indoors it adds exotic, textured charm to bright, indirect light zones.
As a houseplant, it can climb 90–240 cm when supported with a moss pole or trellis. It thrives in well-draining, peat-based soil with moderate watering—keeping the soil moist but never waterlogged—and benefits from consistent humidity, warm temperatures, and occasional fertilisation during the growing season.
With its rapid growth and striking perforated foliage, the Monstera adansonii is a sensational choice for both beginner and experienced plant keepers. However, it is toxic to pets, so placement should be considered carefully.
